This week was very busy, with lots of travel. We traveled to Arlington on Tuesday to teach the sister that will be baptised
on May18Th. She invited a friend over that fell in love with the gospel
and after we taught the entire lesson on the Restoration, the Elders
committed her to be baptised, which she readily accepted. No date has been set yet, but hopefully we can set that up this week. It would be great to baptise them on the same day, but our new found friend travels a lot and so that may not be possible.
Wednesday, we traveled to Iowa City for
interviews with Pres. Jergensen. It was wonderful to see him and Sister
Jergensen once again. Interviews went well and the training was
wonderful!! Iowa City is a famous LDS Pioneer town. The street just to
the east of the Stake Center is Mormon Trek Blvd. This is the very area
where the handcarts traveled during the trek to Salt Lake City.
The Stake Center itself, sits on the exact property where the handcart
companies would pitch their tents as they traveled through this area. We
will be back in Iowa City on April 25Th and will take photo's then! (I
promise Dar)
Thursday,
we traveled to Fayette, Iowa for a District meeting. Sister Warner and I
were assigned to train the Elders on Teaching Skills. In particular, we
taught them about; using the scriptures, teaching with understanding,
asking questions, listening and helping people to resolve their
concerns. (PMG Manual - pages 180-187). It was fun to teach
and they each asked really good questions. We hope that they got
something they can and will use, as they teach their investigators.
Friday, we visited with some less active families. We are in the process of building a relationship of trust with them, but it will take some time. (you know me and my lack of patience). Ugh!!
On
Saturday, we also visited some less active families and had some
success. One family made a solid commitment to return to church. We will
continue to visit with them and they have agreed to let us teach the
missionary lessons to re-introduced the doctrine's of Christ.
Remember
our sister (Laura) from Julian? (We talked about her last week). We
visited with her and she told us she would be back to church. Well,
Sunday she came to church and stayed all three hours. Afterwords,
she invited us to dinner this Thursday night and asked us if we would
begin to teach her non-member husband. She and Sister Warner continue to
build a strong friendship! Did I tell you that Sister Warner is REALLY a
good missionary? If not, I should have!
The
Lord is wonderful and continues to bless us! We are so grateful for His
powerful influence in our lives. The spirit is indeed the great
testator and it is He that causes conversion.
Read Doctrine and Covenants 25:10. If we will heed this council, we will be exalted on high.
Stand strong and be bold!
Elder and Sister Warner
